<reviewbody>Never has so much cutting, digging, blasting and concrete-laying been so beautifully depicted in a free Internet film.

Interesting shots of BART's 800-ton, double-barrelled tubes being laid into SF bay, a large tower being demolished, old ferry piers being pulled up, and massive tunnel rings being fabricated in a mill.

The dramatic high moment of this flick occurs when two ends of the Berkeley Hills tunnel are joined, causing the two tunnel crews to ceremonially change places (I wasn't aware of this tradition but I'm not a sandhog).

One can only imagine that this 1967 film was commissioned to ally all the grousing caused by the ongoing construction work, but as the narrator notes, "it's only temporary".

This film is oddly inspiring. It takes a lot of work to lay a subway into a built up area, and this film delights in showing plenty of mud, muck, and bulldozing action. Anybody who rides BART today should see it.</reviewbody>

<review><reviewbody>Another one in the films tracking BARTs (Bay Area Rapid Transit) progress (see "Along The Way" for another one in this series), and again, this is nothing but half dug pathways, dug up roads, traffic diversions, and dredging. Actually, one interesting thing, when they were pulling out the dock poles, I wondered if they were put there when the Frith film 'Safe in Port was being made. (Now theres a sure sign Ive been watching too many movies). The other fun scene is watching a tunnel being made, and how the two teams, one on one side and one on the other, took bets to when they were going to, as Jim Morrissn put it, break on through to the other side. (actually, I dont think Jimmy was talking about BART at the time). </reviewbody>
